Story
When Jane and I were last able to visit Zambia in 2019, we spent a week with the isolated rural community of Maposa. We got to know the fantastic team of Hands at Work volunteer care workers there. Each day these amazing women feed 125 children. At that time all they had to cook in was the roofless shell of a building, pictured in the photo. Then came the promise of a plot of land on which to build a Care Point where they could cook and the children would be able to come each day to be fed, cared for, kept safe and to play. Having secured ownership of the land, they are now ready to start. So let's help raise the roof!
In October we will be visiting one of our Hands at Work Partner churches, Turning Point Church in Forres, northern Scotland. Whilst there I intend to walk the 70 km of the Moray Coast Trail from 18th-21st October to help raise the roof for this new Care Point. Please sponsor me so that I can help raise some of the £5,786 needed for this new Care Point building! Because of everyone’s generosity, I have revised my initial target (from (£1,000 to £3,000) to try and raise as much as possible of the total cost of this project.
Update 15/10/21: Since embarking on this project, The Forge Church in Ipswich have stepped up magnificently and have fully funded the Maposa Care Point! However, Maposa is just one community with this kind of basic need. I'm continuing with my walk to raise funds for other communities across the 8 countries in Southern Africa we work in, that also need to raise the roof! All funds donated will go towards similar Hands at Work Community Investment Projects, funding not only new care points, but such things as children's shelters, kitchens, play structures, etc ...
