Fundraising for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth

Hello.
Thank you for dropping by to pay your respects to David. As you know, as well as being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, David was a pillar of the local Ivybridge community.
Born in Plympton in the 1950’s, David left school at the age of 15. David worked as a panel beater until establishing David May Motor Services in Ivybridge in 1979, on Park Street, and later, a new build, on Ermington Road, where the site remains today. Across four decades the garage has supported many jobs in the area, employing a great many local people including many apprentices who have gone on to succeed in their own right. David was a proud local businessman and could still be seen working in the garage’s showroom up until his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
He was proud to represent the ward of Ivybridge West for 17 years as a South Hams Conservative councillor.
David was highly active in the local community. He was instrumental in raising funds for the Ivybridge Youth Centre; he was a voluntary director (a position with no pay) for Havencare, a charity providing social care services for people with learning disabilities in Devon and Cornwall; and he was also a member and former president of Rotary for 25 years and is a patron of the Chernobyl Children Lifeline. He has also supported various sporting groups and charities throughout the years, including Food Bank, Ring and Ride, and The Pastors.
Of course, most of us will remember David for the character he was, always holding court, and sharing a joke or two (often the same one numerous times) with the mischievous smile of a naughty school boy. While he will be greatly missed, we hope that he's remembered in the way that he lived: with much joy and laughter, kindness and generosity.
We know times are hard for everyone at the moment but if you can donate even a small amount, the folks at St Luke's will be eternally grateful, as we will be eternally grateful to them for the considerate care they provided David in his final days. The carers from St Luke's and Marie Curie, and the District Nurses in the Ivybridge area made an immeasurable difference to David's well-being and comfort in those last weeks with us.
