Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In December 2017 I suffered a stroke which changed my life and my family’s lives; in just a few moments I went from being fitter than ever to paralysed with a 50/50 chance of surviving
Since then I’ve been lucky to return to full-time work (joining Aon in 2018), have benefitted from excellent NHS care and been able to afford countless private neuro-physio sessions along with other treatments which are helping me regain more of my mobility.
Many other stroke survivors aren’t as fortunate as me and either can’t access suitable free care or afford treatment which would help them achieve their potential to recover.
To help my walking I benefited from Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for my leg and foot, which whilst recommended by the NHS, is rarely provided for free. As a result most Stroke survivors who would benefit from it, either can’t access it for free or afford it.
So I’m taking on a challenge to walk with my wife Emma and two daughters, Freya and Anya, up to a local landmark, Peel Tower on Holcombe Hill, standing at 1,100 feet (335 m) above sea level
The aim is to provide 5 x FES units for stroke survivors who otherwise wouldn’t be able to access them, and help make a huge difference to their lives.
I would be very grateful if you can help make a difference with a donation
All money raised will go to the North Care Charity (a Registered UK charity) for the provision of FES to stroke survivors. Each Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) unit costs around £2,000
