The Challenge
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page in support of Parkinson’s Disease research at The University of Sheffield.
In order to do my small part in helping to support this, I have set myself up with a bit of a challenge: running, cycling and swinging a steel mace...
So what's the challenge? Well, it's going to be duathlon style, so a 5k run, a 20k cycle and then another 5k run (for 10k run total), followed by 250 repetitions of a steel mace "360".
For fun, at the time of writing I have:
a) NEVER done a duathlon;
b) NEVER swung a steel mace for 250 consecutive repetitions; and
c) DEFINITELY NEVER done these things all in one go!
...so this may well take me out...
My aim is to do this mid-November-ish, so as to give myself a chance to get past my most recent injury. Probably on the 14th or 15th, but this is weather dependent, because I definitely don't want to smash this thing out if it's hammering down and blowing million mile an hour gusts (yeah, I know; well fairweather).
The Cause
Two more people are diagnosed every hour. Causing a huge loss of physical movement and uncontrollable tremors, the disease will affect 145,000 people in the UK alone in 2020. New treatments are needed to stop Parkinson's in its tracks.
Your donations will support this important work, helping researchers to lead the way in developing new treatments for Parkinson's Disease.
I have witnessed the impact that Parkinson's can have on the lives of people. Please donate and help fund research to find new ways to deal with this devastating disease.
