We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

You may have heard about some lunacy that I have got myself involved in. If you can help - thank you. If not - no worries.

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve done any real charitable fund raising and taking inspiration from my pal Chris Heaton - I’ve decided to do something a bit challenging.

First it’s all in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. There are not many people that I know, whose family have not been touched by some form of dementia. Anyway, I hope that you agree it’s a worthy cause.

You may know that I’m Chairman of SCT, and so taking advantage of that position I’m going to attempt to do 60 sports one after each other for 6 continuous days and become Sheffield’s greatest Hexacontathlete. Jessica Ennis is our greatest heptathlete - but that’s only 7 events. Mine will be 60 - albeit a tad slower.

The events will take place from Monday 6 - Saturday 11 November 2017. Just to give you a flavour - here is the current plan for Day 1.

0730 - Weight Lifting

0800 - Indoor Rowing

0830 - Spinning Class

0900 - Go to Ponds Forge

0930 - Basketball Match

1000 - Wheelchair Basketball Match

1030 - Wheelchair Rugby Match

1115 -  Break (Thanks a lot, Boys)

1145 - Curling Match

1245 - Figure Skating

1330 - Lunch

1400 - Speed Skating

1530 - Diving culminating in Diving off the 10 metre board.

1630 - Karate.

1730 - Collapse

And that’s the first day of six

The thing that gives me most concern is diving off the top board. I’ve been told that I will hit the water at 40mph. I start my training for diving tomorrow. Big Thanks to City of Sheffield Diving Club and Nigel Mills who has agreed to train me.

So, what can you do to help?

I know that you will receive lots of requests for donations and it’s impossible to support everyone but I hope that you’ll feel moved to bung a couple of quid onto my page.

Or I do take cheques, cash or any transferable commodity.

Secondly, come along and watch me or join me in the events. If you’ve always wanted to dive or jump off the top board - you can.

Kind Regards

David Grey MBE

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.
