Story
By way of a brief introduction, as you can see from the photos, my two kids are very blessed to have a home and have great opportunities ahead of them (as well as both being KEEN swimmers!!!)
Secondly, thanks so MUCH for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. It is the first time I have used this facility and it is a great way of making money for charities!
I have not done any distance swimming for many years but decided that an alternative form of exercise was a great opportunity as well as being a chance to raise money for a worthwhile cause.
Having previously lived in Europe, the presence of kids on the streets without homes and often without families is un-common - whereas in C and S America the problem is rife. Through a friend (Andrew Gray - who is also swimming) and who works for Toybox, I decided to do the swim for them. If you want to find out more about where your money is going check out
A 2.2 kilometres swim in the Pacific is quite a challenge and will probably take about 1.5 to 2.0 hours (sharks and crocodiles permitting!) - for additional details of the actual event (only in Spanish I am afraid!) check out
I have been training hard - in the pool very early a couple of mornings during the week and at weekends, and to date, I am up to 1.5 kilometres! (Completed at 07.00 hrs. this morning in 58 minutes! Getting there at least!)
Donating through JustGiving is simple and totally secure. Don't worry because your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Toybox (my selected charity) and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Whatever you can do would be much appreciated and even more appreciated by those who will directly benefit!
THANKS TO ALL
David
