London Marathon & The Great North Run
Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
This year I have the honour to run the London Marathon and also the Great North Run in memory of family and friends who have lost their battle with cancer, whilst also raising funds and awareness for MacMillan Cancer Support.
In the last twelve months, I have lost both my Mum (Margaret) and my Brother (Brian) to cancer. This is on top of losing in the past, my Brother in Law (Andrew), Sister in Law (Barbara) and also my Uncle (John) to the illness.
I have friends who have fought it and others who are currently fighting it (some with better outcomes than others). I believe it’s fair to say, we all most likely know somebody who has passed away to cancer or somebody who is fighting it, whilst witnessing the impact it has on the families of those affected.
In 2020 almost 3,000,000 people in the UK were living with cancer
Around 385,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year, in the UK
On average someone is diagnosed with cancer every 90 seconds in the UK
Please support my Fundraising and give what you can for such a worthy cause, it’s all too easy to say “it won’t happen to me”. The sad reality is that 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960, will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime.
MacMillan Cancer Support provides specialist Health Care, Information and Financial Support to people affected by cancer. Their goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone who has it in the UK. It’s now time to acknowledge those who work tirelessly for the patients and families of those affected by this deadly disease.
