Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I originally entered this in 2020 however COVID canceled this event, and in 2021 it was medical treatment (see more below)
I have entered the ‘Ride Across Britain' starting on the 10th September 2022, taking 9 days, cycling 981 miles with 57,132 ft. of climbing. No comfy bed to retreat to at night, it’s a tent in a field and with the amount of time in the saddle I’m not fancying the possibility of having to visit the ‘bum doctor’ if things get a little sore along the way.
So why the challenge:
In 2018 I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and underwent a couple of years of active surveillance before it was decided to undergo treatment in December 2020, this meant that I was unable to sit for long periods of time until now. I only found out by chance and don't like to dwell on the what if's had I not. So guys please read below.
If anyone would like to join me on one of the legs to help push me on you will be more than welcome.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and has now overtaken
breast cancer.
• More than 47,500 men are diagnosed with prostate
cancer every year – that's 129 men every day.
• Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer –
that's more than 11,500 men every year.
• 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in
their lifetime.
• Around 400,000 men are living with and after prostate
cancer.
With such an increase in stats there have been big strides in treatments and
earlier diagnoses to prevent this cancer being such a prolific killer.
Watch out for symptoms
• Urinary problems – weak urine stream, difficulty
initiating urination, stopping and starting during urination; urinating
frequently, especially at night, pain or burning with urination.
• Pain – in the hips, pelvis, spine or upper legs.
• Pain or discomfort – during ejaculation.
• Difficulty – getting an erection.
Don’t wait to get checked
