Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
I have chosen to take part in the Camino de Santiago so that together with others who support Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI), I can contribute to raising €50,000 during our 50th anniversary year.
As the vital sevices which SBHI provides are not fully funded, we must fundraise and apply for grants, one of which is the National Lottery Funding (NLF).
For many years the NFL has helped to fund their respite services which provide a vital break for those who live with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and their families.
This year they have received a reduction of over €50,000 which represents more than 50% of the funding received in previous years.
The explanation from the HSE, who administer the NLF, for the grant reduction, is that they had to use the money given to organisations supporting those with disabilities to those assisting the elderly.
At SBHI they want to keep their respite services going despite these drastic cuts. As my nephew Daniel has enjoyed and greatly benefited from these breaks, I know how important this service is. This is why I and many other's will be taking on the 50 for 50 challenge, and raising €50K for SBHI.
