Story

Three peaks completed in 23hours 1 minute.  Thoroughly exhausting challenge but glad to have achieved it.  We started at 11am 01/08/2010 from Pen-y-pass car park and to climb Snowdon.  Three hours later at 2pm we had completed this mountain and were in the car on the way to Scafell Pike.  We arrived in the Lake District for our second climb at 5.30pm.  We set off and completed this mountain at 10.30pm in the dark.  The conditions on this mountain were appalling with close fog, rocky damp crags to slip on and fading light not to mention our own tiredness at this point.  Glad to be off this mountain we set off from Scafell Pike to Scotland for Ben Nevis.  At 4am we arrived outside the Glen Nevis youth hostel in the dark still.  All of us this point were completely knackered and with nearly no sleep we set off at 4.15am to climb Ben Nevis.  Three hours later at 7.15am we were at our last summit.  With the group photo taken we took shelter at the summit to eat cake and drink water before getting the summit as quickly as possible as although it was summer, the temperature was no more than 5 degrees.  At 10am 02/08/2010 we crossed the bridge that takes you to the road outside Glen Nevis youth hostel and we were done.  I turned to Andy who had been recording the time and he said to me he stopped the clock at 23hours 1minute and 15seconds.  Job done!  Needless to say we celebrated with a few beers and drams of whisky in Fort William.  Thank you to the team Dave, Ben and Andy for helping me organise, take part and complete this challenge I mentioned to them a few months ago.  A massive thank you to the drivers between the mountains, Sue and Jim Moran.  Without them we could have not completed the challenge.  Finally, thank you to all those people who have donated money to Shelterbox.  The total now is over 700 pounds, all of which I now hope will reach the devastation that has ruined the lives of thousands of people in Pakistan.

Hello all, me, Dave, Ben and Andy all are taking on the three peaks challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) on the 3rd August 2010 in 24 hours.  We are doing this for Shelterbox.  This charity was set up in our home town of Cornwall to provide international disaster relief to all those millions of people affected by natural disasters.  The charity has been running now for ten years and they have helped out in many places including Indonesia in 2004 after the earthquake there on Boxing day 2004 as well as more recently in Haiti and Chile when earthquake struck these regions also.  These people affected will have been left with absolutely nothing and totally dependent on charity aid.  Shelterbox provides large boxes like crates filled with materials to enable people to restart there lives.  Items inside the box would include tents, stoves, writing materials, tools, ground sheets, blankets and other essentials in order to people to stay alive and rebuild lives.  It costs 470 pounds for each shelterbox, so please donate generously.  Its all about the box!
