Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was first diagnosed with Mouth Cancer in 2012 at the age of 40 which came as a shock and life changer for us as a Family my Wife Nicola and my 2 Children Ben & Katie. I had surgery a few weeks after diagnosis at Lincoln Hospital with Dr Buah and his team ( A special thank you to Marie our friend, neighbour and Macmillan Nurse) which involved removal of some teeth, jaw bone and a neck dissection which all took a lot of adjusting to when back at home but life had to move on.

After 4 Years and many check ups/scans & lymph node removals I was again diagnosed with Cancer to the right side of my tongue. I was referred to QMC in Nottingham and met my consultant Dr Iain McVicar who was fantastic. I needed 2 operations to remove the cancer which all went well and again became Cancer free.

During this period and over the following Year things were very up and down, at one of my lowest times I ended up in Intensive Care at Lincoln Hospital been put into an induced coma after a seizure I woke up 3 days later and stayed in ICU for a week.

Unfortunately the Cancer returned again in October 2018 at the back of my tongue which required a much bigger operation. This was coordinated and performed by Dr Laith Al-Qamachi and his team who needed to replace the right side of my tongue with a large flap taken from my left arm. This involved a very long operation, feeding tube, tracheostomy & lots of Morphine (needless to say my Christmas Dinner was interesting) I have to thank Dr Al-Qamachi and his team for looking after me not only then but continue to do so at my 6 week check ups.

Life has at times been very difficult over the past 7 Years but with the Love and continued support of my Family and Friends I am determined to beat this. When I mentioned to Dr Al-Qamachi that I used to run but hadn’t since my first Cancer he made a pact for us to train and run an event together. When we heard another ENT Cancer patient and his Surgeon had signed up to run the Nottingham Half Marathon on September 29th we agreed this is the event we will run together.

This will not only be a milestone for me but more importantly will raise some much needed funds to help the team continue their invaluable work and help others who will experience the same path we have gone through they are truly special people please donate.
