Story
MUM – THIS IS FOR
YOU.
In 1995, my amazing mum – Jan Hargreaves, lost her battle
with cancer. I was 21yrs old, and she was my best friend. It shook me to the
core. I was a young man, trying to come to terms with such a tragic loss. During this very difficult, sad and
emotionally hard time, we were supported fantastically by our local hospice and
the MacMillan Nurses. And over time, I have come to terms with what happened,
and now enjoy a fabulous family life of my own, with Mum’s memory very much a
part of that.
So I now want to do something to help others in this
difficult period, and also, to push myself in a challenge that will make mum
proud of me.
‘’How does a 500mile cycle through Holland, over 5 days
sound Mum? I want to raise £5,000 to help MacMillan nurses and St Catherine’s -
our local hospice here in Scarborough –
do you think that is enough? I want to do it with my family, as they never got
to meet you, and I know you would love them so much. I have convinced Theresa
to drive the truck (watch out anyone else on the road), and Charlotte and Bella
to navigate (could be interesting!), as my support team! Oh, and we also have
some fabulous friends that want to join us – you would love them. Kirsty has
The Forge Team Rooms in Brompton -by – Sawdon, Steve has a wine business called
Betton Wine, - and they want to cycle with me.
And two of their children are braving the journey with Theresa and the
girls – to keep them on track. I love and miss you Mum – but I hope this will
make you proud. Who knows, you may even do a cross stitch of the adventure!’’
