Story

I've run a few big races before but had to found something bigger, nastier, wetter and Scottisher, the Cape Wrath Ultra -  running 400km (248 miles) over and through the Scottish Highlands with a total ascent of more than 11,000m (that's 1.25 times the height of Everest!). www.capewrathultra.com

A breakdown looks something like this:

  • Day 1: 37km (23 miles) 500m ascent
  • Day 2: 57km (35 miles) 1,800m ascent
  • Day 3: 68km (42 miles) 2,400m ascent
  • Day 4: 35km (22 miles) 1,400m ascent
  • Day 5: 44km (27 miles) 1,400m ascent
  • Day 6: 72km (45 miles) 1,400m ascent
  • Day 7: 61km (38 miles) 1,600m ascent
  • Day 8: 26km (16 miles) 700m ascent

The whole course is unmarked, without food or water stops, we have to navigate our own way through river crossings and trails in the best and worst of Scottish weather. This just sounds stupid as I write it, I live in the Fens so the only hills round here are drop-curbs!

I'm genuinely daunted by this feat not only because of the enormity of it but also because I stupidly went and fractured my foot and tore some ligaments in my ankle in January which I'm still healing from (fell out of a palm tree - another story).  This means I'm now about to take on one of the world's biggest running races having only started running again 8 weeks out.  I just hope that's going to be enough.

Please support me and Anna's Hope as it truly gives me so much more incentive to push on knowing what a difference it makes.
