Thanks for clicking the link and making it this far...
I think eveyone coming here will know that I can racewalk and run, so why run now for charity at the Great South Run on 24th October.
A little over a year ago, one of my best mates rang me to tell me that his wife had breast cancer at the age of 33... they had 2 daughters aged 3 and 6 months old! She had an immediate mastectomy (7 hour operation) and then started 3 months of chemotherapy, during which time we looked after their daughters while she got over each course of the chemo..
The great news is that she is alive and well now, but because she has the cancer gene, she has had to have a second mastectomy plus reconstruction surgery last week... and once that is complete, she will need a hysterectomy... It can happen to anyone.
I have seen it all first hand, having lost my father 12 years ago to Cancer, and now seeing someone far too young going through this difficult journey. I know that you will have seen the same..
The good news is that the more we contribute to treatment and study, the more chances we give ourselves if it happens to us...
I can run 10 miles no problem, so I have an aim... to be first charity runner home to give the Royal Marsden more publicity, ideally to be in the top 50... will need to run under 58 minutes by my reckoning..
