We provide expert care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses

Story

As most of you know my dad is currently fighting a battle with cancer. He got diagnosed early on in April this year with small cell lung cancer which had already spread to his liver. He started treatment straight away making his first trip to Christie's to start his chemo. He coped very well with this for the first few days, walking around doing normal day to day activities, feeling slightly sick but nothing he couldn't handle. After a week or so he experienced terrible pain in his back where he had to be taken to Bolton Royal hospital by ambulance as an emergency. It was then that we discovered, with various scans that unfortunately the cancer had spread to his spine. For precautionary measures he was then lay flat and put in a neck and head brace to stop any further damage being made to his spine as this was so serious any slight movement could paralyze him. It was there he stayed; lay flat uncomfortably for around a week and a half. He felt the hospital did all they could for him but he was having a very hard time in there with the pain management, the noise at night etc. It was then discovered that he would need a permanent brace fitted. This was to support his neck and back for whenever he wanted to sit up as his spine was evidently damaged and couldn't do its job properly anymore.

We then had the news that they were going to move him to Bolton Hospice for a better way of life. This has found him in better surrounding's with a nicer room and large patio doors looking onto beautiful landscaped gardens, something my dad has always appreciated.

I cannot express in words how much this move has helped my dad.

His words " I thought I was on my way out in Bolton Hospital moving here has saved me!!! "

The Hospice provides free palliative and end of life care services to people facing cancer and non-cancer related life -limiting illnesses. Friends and family have found it a great comfort visiting my dad here knowing the care given is second to non. The hospice is a charity run organization so relies on fundraising to help keep the Centre running.

I cannot thank the hospice and all the volunteers enough for their on - going support and care.

My way of rewarding them is raising as much money as I possibly can and taking on a mammoth SKYDIVE!!!!

Please help me to do this by donating below.

Thanks you

Danielle and all the familyxxxx
