The reason I am raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity is because I have only ever lost 2 people in my lifetime and they were both taken by Brain Tumours.

My best friend was found to have a brain tumour at the age of 6 years old (Year 2 of Primary School) For me at the time I knew Holly was ill and I would visit regularly to Great Ormond Street but looking back I didn’t really understand how ill she really was. Holly battled through many brain tumours and too many surgeries before she lost her life at the age of 19 years old, 1 month before her 20th birthday. Throughout the battle and daily hardship Holly came across she always stayed positive and was a fighter till the very end.

The second was my Uncle Phil, unlike Holly he was taken very quickly and passed away within the year of finding out... 2 months after I we had lost Holly. Still to this day I will turn up at a family parties and miss his presence, his smile, his sarcasm and his laugh. Up until this point the only illness I have known has been Brain Tumours.

The exact reasons why a brain tumour develops still isn’t fully understood at present. Most brain tumours are thought to develop from unusual and random changes in your brain cells, but what causes these isn’t known.

All my friends and family will tell you I am no athlete, far from it! But with every run or challenge I take on I remind myself why I am doing this and who I am doing this for. With the money I raise I hope this will make a change and help somebody else not have to feel the pain Holly and Uncle Phil did and for friends and families everywhere not to have to lose a loved one to this vicious disease.

Thank you for reading my reasons and donating towards the cause. X
