Story
All of you who know me will know how much I love running... to the bar for last orders! Well, in a moment of madness, I decided to go a little further and I've signed up to run the Brighton Marathon on the 15th April.
There are 2 reasons why I want to do this;
1. To run a marathon has always been a personal ambition of mine, and let's face it, I'm not getting any younger!
2. I would like to raise money for a charity that is very, very close to me and I would like to help them continue doing some great work.
Dementia can affect anyone and is caused by diseases of the brain, one of these is Alzheimer’s. There are currently over 750,000 people with dementia in the UK and this figure will rise to over 1 million by 2021.
The Alzheimer's Society provide information and support for people with all types of dementia, their families and their carers, touching the lives of over 30,000 people every week. They campaign and lobby to influence government policy and raise awareness and understanding of dementia. And they fund research into the cause, cure and care of dementia. They rely on voluntary contributions to carry on their vital work, and that’s why the money you donate will make such a difference.
For the honour of running for the Alzheimer's charity I have pledged to them that I will raise £550. I will personally make up the difference if I do not make it all via fundraising so that I can fulfill my promise to them.
Running my first marathon really will be a challenge for me and I've chosen something that will be tough so that I can ask for your donations. I am taking my training seriously, and with continued effort it looks realistic that although I won't be setting any world records, I believe I can run/walk/drag myself around the full 26.2 miles *gulp*
I really do appreciate any donations no matter how big or small and I know that the financial backing will help keep me going around the 26.2 miles.
If you are able to give or not- please email me with your number one motivational song for me to stick on my playlist so I can take a little bit of you all with me on my journey!
Thanks for your support!
