Story
I lost my mum to a very aggressive brain tumour in 2018 that from diagnosis took only 4-5 months to claim her life. It was absolutely devastating to watch her fade away knowing there was nothing currently available to ease her symptoms let alone save her life. Not a day goes by where I do not miss her! I wish this was where my experience of brain tumours ended...
In 2014 my brother Shaun was diagnosed with a brain tumour after completely losing his sense of smell and peripheral vision. Fortunately he had a successful operation to remove a very large percentage of it and has recently had radiotherapy to treat some regrowth. He made a rapid recovery and his eyesight restored to normal but he is left with a permanent loss of smell and the knowledge that it may return in the future.
One of my close friends also has a brain tumour and he lives with ongoing side effects from it even after a successful operation, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Both my brother and friend are under 40 years of age and have young families. The constant worry of wondering if it may take a turn and advance is a stress felt by all who know them. It is so vital to help find new ways to treat brain tumours as they really can affect anyone of any age!
