Story
Our cousin, Jack was the same age as both of us, only 21, and completely fit and healthy, when he unexpectedly died in 2018.
80% of people who die from cardiac conditions die suddenly, and Jack was 1 of at least 12 fit and healthy young people who die in the UK every WEEK from an undiagnosed cardiac condition. Everyone who has had this affect them wishes they could have done something to prevent it but there are no signs/symptoms. Screenings can help prevent these deaths. CRY offer subsidised screening and if a diagnosis has been made, 89% of the time death can be avoided.
Since Jack's death, members of our family have undergone cardiac screenings, with thanks to CRY, and numerous family members have now been diagnosed with Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC).
In Jack's memory, we are running the Colchester Stampede half marathon on 10th October to raise money and awareness for CRY who have supported our family through this, whilst helping us receive screenings to protect our cardiac health.
With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions. See how your support can help and read more about cardiac screenings by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk
