Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, after last years disappointment with my back injury, I will be completing this year. Its all or bust! Wouldn't say I'm completely fighting fit, but I'm determined to cross that line!
Still need more sponsors lovely people. If I don't hit my target, there'll be no run and all my training wasted. Sad times! I also think it's for a pretty good cause affecting so many people at all aspects of life. Read on to see :-).
Diabetes is currently one of the biggest health challenges that the UK face at present, and due to the fact that we live longer and eat more convenience foods, the prevelence of type 2 diabetes is going to get much much higher!!
Statistics based on my current lifestyle, waist measurements and weight:height ratio show that I already have a 1 in 50 chance of having diabetes and a 1 in 10 chance of developing diabetes in the future. Those numbers really are quite scary!
So, I have decided to change my future in two ways. Firstly, get off my backside and get running in the hope that my lifestyle change will help reduce the chances of me developing Diabetes (quite sure my 1 in 50 hasn't come up yet) and if that fails and it still catches up with me, then raising money for Diabetes UK to aid education, research and support is my back up plan.
Running with a goal at the end (all 13 miles of the Great North Run) rather than just because I should, is helping me stick to it. I need you lot to help keep me on track and make sure I get to run it by sponsoring me.
Any small amount, even if it's just handing me the change in your pocket next time you see me will all help. And feel free to send me any messages of support. I really do need all the encouragement I can get!
