Story

*********************

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be taking part in several endurance events this  year to raise money for duchenne muscular dystrophy research. The research carried out will hopefully slow the progression of the condition and maybe even cure it.

Approximately 100 boys per year are born with the condition in the UK, it causes the loss of walking normally by secondary school. It is unfortunately, currently fatal with a life expectancy of rarely beyond the age of 30.

In August of 2019 our 5 year old son Teddy was diagnosed with this condition.

Confusion, extreme sadness and loss of direction are always there but charities like Action Duchenne give us and other families hope of a bright future.

I will update the page with event details as time goes on but below are the events I’ve already booked. Please note all are self funded & supported.

2020 -

25th January - Templer Way. 18 miles from Haytor to Teignmouth (accompanied by Ali McKnight, Matt Bellamy, Neil Hough) ✔️ This was my first run over 14 miles in length and due to poor hydration I had to run with cramp from mile 14-18. Great route though!

23rd February-  Hameldown Hammer trail half marathon  (accompanied by Adam Kefford) http://www.puretrail.uk/hameldown/✔️ Hills, hills and hills, there weren’t many runners that made it to the end without wiping out in the mud.

1st March- Exeter half marathon https://www.exetercitycommunitytrust.co.uk/courses/running-events/exeter-half-marathon-february-2020(accompanied by Adam Kefford) ✔️ Finished in 1hr46mins.

20th June Dartmoor in a Day. 35 miles from Okehampton to Ivybridge across Dartmoor. in Completed total time 8.30 hrs including stoppages Accompanied by Matt Bellamy and Ali McKnight.Self supported.  ✔️Great route, all 3 of us love Dartmoor. Stoppages mainly due to route checking, this didn’t stop us doing a 3 mile detour. Strange to finish a run like this with no one to greet you at the finish.

2nd August - Exe to Axe Coastal run 22 miles. Accompanied by Ryan Napper, Ali Mcknight, Adam Kefford ✔️ Very hot day on this one, finished with a dip in the sea which helped our hill weary legs. We ascended the height of Snowdon over the course of the run.

16th August - Matt Bellamy’s 100k from Darts Farm to Exmouth & return. ✔️ 32 miles for me on this one, my turn to return the favour of support on a challenge. Emotional at the end!

6th September - ✔️Dartmoor West to East. Tavistock to Bovey Tracey. 29 miles off road, self supported.  Accompanied by Sam Lewis. This was the toughest event for me so far, some awful terrain and some very steep hills.

2021-

2nd May - 30 mile self supported run from the Blackdown hills to Budleigh Salterton. The river Otter from source to sea. ✔️

29th May - race the tide 16 mile coastal race. ✔️

5th June 2021 - Conquer 24hr race (team of 4,  40 miles each in 24hrs) ✔️https://www.challengechildpoverty.org.uk/conquer24?fbclid=IwAR0Ie98vN6YomlXpX14Y4u6bKB7nt74vEeoCGffgOyEUQcchrm3IifqYhDo

✔️8th November 2021- The big one. The two moors way Devon coast to coast 117 miles.
