Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I.m  running 3 Marathons in 3 months to raise £3000 for hospice at home west cumbria.

Sounds hard doesn't it, well it's harder than you think. The first 'Marathon' is a 50 mile ultra with over 3000 metres of ascent and descent (that's like running up and down Englands highest mountain 3 times and still having to run 2 standard marathons)

Sounds impossibly Hard doesn't it, Well think how impossibly hard it must be to watch someone you love slowly fade away at the end of their life and know there is nothing you can do to stop it, just think how helpless, afraid and alone you must feel...............

But there is help both for your loved ones and for you. Thats why I'm Raising money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides nursing and medical care at home for patients with a life threatening illness. It also provides Day Centres; Drop In Centres; a Befriending Service; and a specialised Lymphoedema Service. Its services are provided free of charge to patients and their carers living in the West Cumbria area.

I'm running these marathons in memory of an amazing lady, Jill Healey, who sadly passed away in January 2011.  Hospice at home west cumbria helped enable Jill to spend the last 8 weeks of her life at home with her family.  Despite not being runners at all, Jill's daughter Suzanne Lane and friend Julie Crellin are also going to join me in running a half marathon.

So please dig deep and donate now every penny really does help.

As a thank you for your generosity, I am going to hold a draw at the end of the fundraising.  Anyone who donates £10 or more will be entered into the draw and the winner will get to choose which charity I run for next year.  Thank you.

Update 1

One week on from the lakeland 50 ultra and i'm still in a bit of pain, my toes took a hammering after the first couple of sections and a wee knock almost cost me my little toe (see pictures)

however the 50 is behind me and now it's back to training for the next event which is the Carlisle half marathon....with the help of some customized trainers (again, see pictures ) I should be in fine shape for the event.....AND I'm hoping to set  a new weird world record (depends on the people at Guiness)

In any case I'm going to be running ithe half in a dress and wig.......Photos to follow......and you could choose which Dress and wig I start the run in.....details on how to vote for the outfit will be along in a while. we are still a bit away from our target so please dig deap.......

If you haven't donated already please do so now...Because every penny really does help.

We started this page a few months ago, and at the time the events (50 mile ultra, 13 mile half and 26 mile standard marathons) seemed a long way away...since then we've raised a few quid (but not enough) and been in the local paper......

But this time tomorrow (12 noon 30th july 2011) I will be running the first of the three events...

The lakeland 50 ultra starts at Dalemain and finished in Coniston. The training has been hard and i've pushed myself to my limits but even now, I'm not sure I'm totally ready for the pain and emotional toil that completing the distance will demand.

only time will tell.

During my training I've destroyed over 15 pairs of socks, 8 running tops, 5 pairs of trainers, 2 pairs of running bottoms and 1 marathon backpack.

I've run/walked over 1335 miles, trained for over 225 hours and burnt over 200,000 calories.

Some days I could hardly walk because my feet had swollen so much, on other days my toe-nails turned black and the blisters burst. but I pushed myself past the pain and kept training,

all with one goal in mind...........

TO REACH THE £3000 TARGET

I'm doing the hard work so you don't have to.......you can do the easy stuff, but have a bigger impact ............and all you have to do is donate as much as you can to help, no matter how small or big your donation, every penny helps keep Hospice at Home West Cumbria going.....

Every Penny Helps so please give what you can

Thank you

Update 2

The second marathon is complete.  Only 1 left to go!  26 miles at Kielder next Sunday.

Please keep giving,

Thank You.
