Story
It's Lockdown 3 and online school again for 15 and 14-year-old friends Daisy and Ava. Both avid swimmers, and members of their local surf life saving club, they have embarked on a series of long-distance sea swim challenges to help other people benefit from the incredible power of the ocean, fundraising for the Wave Project, a charity that uses surf therapy sessions to help young people struggling with their mental health.
Their first challenge in January, to swim the equivalent of the English Channel in the sea over the month of January, raised over £2,000 from the incredibly generous support of the public, with their story shared by BBC local television & radio, and the Argus newspaper.
Their February challenge is to swim the Channel again, but in a month with sea and air temperatures at their coldest, and fewer days to find with sea conditions that are safe to swim.
Their third challenge begins in March, when they aim to swim to France and back – 42 miles by the end of April.
The girls aim to swim every day that sea conditions allow until they reach their target distance. Keep an eye on this page for updates of their progress!
