The Caravan Club fielded a team of 70 people who took part in this year's British Heart Foundation (BHF) London to Brighton Bike Ride to help raise vital funds for the nation's heart charity. 'Team Caravan Club' raised over £22,000.

The Ride took place on Sunday 21st June 2009 and is the largest cycle event in Europe. The scenic route through Surrey and Sussex has raised over £46m for the BHF's lifesaving work since the Ride began.

Team Caravan Club's 70 intrepid riders were led by Club Chairman, Grenville Chamberlain; the team comprised of staff members and committee representatives.

Grenville Chamberlain, came up with the idea to enter a team at the 2008 valedictory dinner for outgoing Chairman, Bob Black MBE. Bob underwent triple bypass heart surgery in May that year and a charitable effort on behalf of the British Heart Foundation seemed like the perfect way to recognise the magnificent care he received.

"The London to Brighton Bike Ride raises millions for the British Heart Foundation every year and it's great that The Caravan Club can do its bit. Bob cycled in the event and it was our way of saying thank you", said Grenville. "Many of our riders have shed many pounds and their own health has benefited enormously from the training regime. They really do have hearts of gold to have undertaken such a challenge. Thankfully I invested in a pair of well-padded cycling shorts after a rather painful introduction to the sport - they were well worth the money!"

Julie Sorrell, Head of Events at the British Heart Foundation adds: "Thanks to The Caravan Club, and indeed all supporters of the British Heart Foundation, it can continue to fund its lifesaving work, improving the lives of those suffering with heart disease."
