In October 2010 i will be trekking  to the summit of Mount Kilamanjiro standing at 5896 metres (19343 feet) . It is my aim to raise a minimum of £5,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

In April of last year my brother Guy was taken seriously ill with an aortic dissection (burst aorta). Guy was rushed to the Basildon Cardiothoracic centre for 16 hours of open heart surgery, due to the amazing skill of the surgeons and against all the odds he managed to survive, but the battle had only just begun. Over the next few weeks Guy suffered 2 aneurysms which required 2 further sets of open heart surgery, after a grand total of 35 hours open heart surgery somehow he managed to pull through. Guy is now recovering well at home with the support of his amazing wife, Claire and his equally amazing children Grace, Kit and Harry.

Like most family members watching a close one struggle to survive in a hospital bed, i felt pretty useless. It was then that i wondered what i could do to try and make a difference. Raising some money for charity seemed the way ahead and what better way than climbing to 'The Roof of Africa' on behalf of the British Heart Foundation.

Some of the most ground-breaking, innovative and important achievements in heart health research over the past 45 years have been made thanks to work supported by the British Heart Foundation. Every year thousands of lives are saved thanks to the ground-breaking research and innovative health initiatives of the BHF. But to do this the BHF really do rely on the generosity of people like us to help them continue their vital work.

Any donation will be much appreciated as it will go to helping the BHF make a real difference.
