Story
Thank you for all who sponsored me to run in this half marathon. I came 54th in a time of 1hr 15min and 15sec.
On Sunday 17th October 2010 I ran in the Cardiff Half Marathon in Memory of my Twin Brother, Martin.
Martin is my Twin, and Best Friend. I am so proud of him and what he has achieved. Yet it is so difficult to come to terms with what has happened. Running in Cardiff is special as Martin's Partner Jo and her family live near by.
As some of you may know, Martin was a Captain and second in Command of A Norfolk Company of the 1st Battalion (The Vikings), The Royal Anglian Regiment. He was very proud of his Battalion and worked very hard for everyone there, treating everyone as equals. They were deployed to Afghanistan in November 2009.
The last time I saw Martin was on our 31st Birthday on the 31st January 2010 at the end of his R+R break in Caerphilly (S. Wales), the home he shared with his partner Jo. Unfortunately whilst on the final few weeks of his tour, Martin was seriously injured. He survived 21 days in Intensive Care (plus numerous operations) but his injuries were too severe and he died at 11 minutes past eleven in the evening on 15th March 2010 with all of us, his family, around him.
As we try desperately hard to try and rebuild our lives, we are eternally grateful to so many who have helped Martin and the rest of the Family.
We are unfortunately not alone. There are other families from Martin's Battalion who are grieving and are thoughts are with them too. Not forgetting the numerous injured soldiers still recovering.
The Royal Anglian Benevolent Charity has supported us as a family but is also currently supporting many other Royal Anglian soldiers and their families. Please help support the Regimental Benevolent Charity.
I also encourage you support my second charity SSAFA Forces Help who have also been very supportive to my family during this difficult time;
