Having sustained a fracture dislocation T 7/8 spine incomplete in 1985, I luckily managed to go from paralysed from the waist down to 'walking wounded'. The subsequent surgical, recovery and rehabilitation route to my current state took in hospitals in the Far East, a medivac flight back to the UK, where followed another hospital stretch, before being transfered to a specialist rehabilitation unit for around six months.
I'm using this opportunity to put a little back into the system, and raise some money and hopefully the profile of 'Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) research.
Twenty five years ago 'INSPIRE' identified that there was no single Charity which focused specifically on research into Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) – Since then they have raised in excess of £1,000,000 and sponsored nearly thirty projects in the pursuit of their own objective:
