I am raising funds to support my volunteer work with Bridge of Life in December. I will visit Gautemala with a team of 6 volunteers to identify and raise awareness about the causes of CKD, as well as educate communities on prevention strategies to slow the progression of kidney disease by targeting its major culprits, hypertension and diabetes. Our goal is to reach more than 500 people.
The plan:
As part of a larger research project to investigate CKDnT (chronic kidney disease of nontraditional causes), we will screen 100s of adults in and around La Democracia municipality. CKDnT is a fatal progressive loss of kidney function and mainly affects agricultural workers in developing countries.
Train 30 local Community Health Workers and doctors on CKD and give them tools and resources to effectively implement sustainable kidney care programs throughout their communities.
Spend a day with kidney donors to provide labs and health education
Thank you for your support!
