Story
I want to share my story with as many people as possible to raise awareness of brain cancer which has changed my life completely. This cruel disease affects children and adults and desperately needs funding to enable research to try and find a cure.
In April 2016 I went to the opticians after seeing a grey cloud affecting my vision in my left eye. They told me they could see something but couldn’t tell me what it was and sent me straight to the RVI eye emergency unit. I had more eye tests and a CT scan then a MRI scan the next day. I had a biopsy and was told I had an inoperable brain tumour. I was born with it and it had slowly grown larger over the years. I was devastated. Having to tell my 16 year old daughter and my family I had incurable brain cancer was unreal. I have epilepsy now, I’ve had radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I donated my hair to the Princess Trust before cancer treatment took it from me. My tumour has reduced in mass when I was told radiotherapy may just maintain its current size.
Im going to keep fighting it all the way.
I will never ever ever give up.
Myself and my sister Shirley are doing the Great North Run this year. We want to raise as much money as possible to fund vital research into brain tumours and to try and find a cure for this indescribably cruel disease.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

The Brain Tumour Charity is at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain tumours, making a difference every day to the lives of people with a brain tumour and their families. We fund pioneering research to increase survival, raise awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours and provide support for everyone affected to improve quality of life. We are committed to having the biggest possible impact for every person affected by a brain tumour, and to defending the most amazing part of the human body.
Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer... yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.
