Cycling the Western Front, 9 July 2015
We educate lower caste children to improve their life prospects

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On
the 9th of July, we will be setting off from Nieuwpoort on the North Belgian
coast, and over the next week will be cycling over 800km, finishing in Mulhouse on the Swiss-French Border. Our route takes us along the 1915 trenchline.

We
will be raising money for two wonderful charities. The first is Project Mala, a
charity founded in 1989 as an action programme
for the abolition of child labour in the hand knotted carpet industry in India.
They provide education for children in the carpet weaving belt. Their programme
includes education up to secondary school level, hot midday meal for all
children and healthcare facilities. The
second is the Mark Evison foundation, an organisation that encourages young
people to challenge themselves  so
that they become more rounded individuals with broader life skills. They encourage young people to design, plan and carry out personally demanding non-academic
projects of their own choosing, and then they provide funding for these
projects. They also provide fantastic mentoring to help their applicants
realise their plans.

We will be travelling independently along our chosen route, finding accommodation
in cheap hostels, to ensure that as much money goes to the chosen charities as possible.

The Mark Evison foundation has provided us with support and
guidance that made our ideas possible. The underlying inspiration for the
values of the foundation are those of Lt Mark Evison, who died in 2009 from a
gunshot wound in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, as a young British soldier: his
story inspired us to undertake our challenge.

We chose to cycle along this route as it is 100 years since the stalemate on the Western Front began. The money raised online will be given to Project Mala, the money raised offline will be given to the Mark Evison Foundation.

We ask that you give generously to support these two fabulous
organisations.
