We rescue & rehome greyhounds and lurchers to stop dogs needlessly being put to sleep

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have finally secured myself a place at the 12th Ballot attempt in the London Marathon and I have decided to take the opportunity to raise money for Greyhound Gap.

Greyhound Gap is a small independent registered charity (No.1158499) set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds.

Although Gap’s focus is essentially Greyhounds it’s not exclusive. Frenchies, Terriers, Chihuahua’s and even a litter of kittens abandoned at the kennels gate have been welcomed to the Gap family.

Funded almost entirely by donations, they rehome around 150 dogs each year.  They can have around 40-50 dogs at any one time in the kennels based in Kidsgrove, Stoke on Trent and a further 30-40 in foster homes.  Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so dogs can be homed in most areas throughout the UK.

This year the London  Marathon has moved back to April from October. This has meant long gruelling training runs in the winter in all conditions instead of a lovely summer of light warm training runs.

My biggest concern during my training has been an ankle problem. This isn’t 100% but we go anyway. 3 weeks ago to top it all I pulled a stomach muscle which is still stressing me out.

As part of my training I have done Helsby Half Marathon, Rugeley 10 and the Colwyn Bay Metric Marathon. I’ve done my last 20 miles training run so it’s no going back.

I have also been lucky to have the support of the amazing runners and coaches at Silverdale Running Club. The twice weekly clubs runs and cross country has been an extra incentive to get my trainers on in what’s have been truly woeful nights this winter ( will we ever forget the 2023 big freeze🥶)

To get over the Marathon Blues (yes it’s a thing ) I have decided run the Manchester half on 21st May. As the fund raising has been going so well I have decided  keep the page open for a while longer.

I’m hoping to raise £260.20

Which would pay for a neutering for just one dog.

So please read my story, enjoy any photos which will be constantly updated over the coming week or so and donate if you can. Any funds raised go straight to the Greyhound Gap...
