We support people with dementia in Scotland to make sure nobody faces dementia alone

Story

Over the last 10 years research has pointed unequivocally to the emergence of changes in the brain in mid life, which, if left untreated, could lead to severe neurodegenerative disease (also historically referred to as ‘dementia’) in later life.

We know so much, but currently do so little.

As the Founder and CEO of Scottish Brain Sciences, this first ‘Founders Challenge’ represents also the commitments of Scottish Brain Sciences to work with and support colleagues and organisations around the world who share our objective.

The work of Brain Health Scotland (which I previously co-founded with Henry Simmons almost 5 years ago) is making sure that we don’t accept the 20th century fatalism and pessimism about conditions like Alzheimer’s Disease.

I’m running to raise awareness of the hope that organisations like Brain Health Scotland (hosted by Alzheimer Scotland) bring. I’m running to raise money so they can continue and expand their amazing work. And I’m running to get the blood pumping to my own brain, lose some weight, and reduce my stress so my brain is a tad healthier too! 😃

Dementia should be a very rare condition today - it would be an absolute tragedy if it wasn’t tomorrow.

Getting to that ‘finishing line’ as quickly as possible is my passion and priority.
