On 20th June I will be donning lots of rubber (hat and suit) under which I will be wearing an even tastier lycra tri - suit to do the UK Ironman 70.3 triathlon event: 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile cycle and a half marathon to finish (me off !).
Why would I do this ? well a great friend, Bronson Fargo died suddenly in early January this year, during the last chat I had with him over Christmas we compared new year resolutions and goals for this year, I jokingly said I thought I might do an Ironman, this brought Bronson to almost tears of laughter !
So I decided on a personal challenge in memory of Bronson and to raise money for charity. As part of the Rotary team in this event half the money raised will go to Rotary, the other half will go to the RNLI a charity very dear to Bronson, so much so that he became chairman of his Local RNLI station for many years. Having met some of the team there, Bronson clearly made a tremendous impact, one which with your help I hope could be even greater.
The RNLI rescue over 8,200 people every year, averaging 22 rescues a day. With nearly 9,000 crew members across the UK this is a huge organisation often taken for granted as another emergency service, it is however completely funded through charitable donations and volunteers like Bronson, all of whom make a difference and save lives. Any money we raise will help provide the vital resources these guys need, resources I know Bronson worked so hard to secure for so long for his Station.
Many Thanks,
Craig
