Story
“What do you do after having “the end-of-life conversation” as your mum’s tortuous Alzheimer’s journey mercifully finally draws to a close?”
You find yourself sitting in the carehome carpark agreeing to run the 2023 London Marathon!
You and your son scramble to complete the online forms, taking the last places on the Alzheimer’s Society’s fundraising team, minutes before the deadline closes. The Paris marathon is now the warm up!
Breathing again you realise you have to raise £4000 Yep Madness!
Sadly, mum passed away peacefully on Monday 27th March, and we celbrated her life on 26th April. Sharing thoughts and memories of her did sustain us throughout our 26+miles. Paris was OK; London was wet and hard! It was amazing, surreal, passing famous landmarks with thousands of charity runners and even more supporters. We finally, wonderfully met up in London after having differing starting routes and times at mile 15. Then at mile 20 cramp set in after a dramatic carry to the side, we walked/ran the last few miles together to finish.
Thank you for your support.
