Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 22nd to 26th of June I am riding from Mizen to Malin Head along with a team from Foyle Cycling Club.
I have decided to raise money for Blood Pressure UK in doing this. They are a charity dedicated to lowering high blood pressure and raising awareness of the symptoms of hypotension and hypertension, reducing risks of heart complications.
The reason I have chosen this charity in particular is because it hits close to home. Hypertension tends to run genetically through many members of my family, becoming more apparent with age. The symptoms can vary widely from headaches, fatigue, to nausea and persistent chest pain.
1 in 3 people in the UK have high blood pressure, but staggeringly, half of them are undiagnosed or not receiving the necessary medication. The only way to assess the condition is with a simple measurement test using a monitor.
These can be easily purchased or found at any local pharmacy!
Thankfully, it is one of the most preventable and treatable health conditions out there. However, because of this it can often be overlooked, ignored or untreated, leading to major health problems down the line.
I want to do my part in raising awareness for this, making sure everyone gets their numbers checked and encourage a healthy and happy lifestyle!

Colm.
