Story
Our son Felix was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rare and agressive childhood cancer on Valentine's Day 2009, age 4. After a 2 and a half year battle, Felix's amazing superhero powers lifted him to the sky on August 23, 2011, age 6 and 3/4.
During his journey to beat cancer, Felix experienced more physical hardship at ages four, five and six than any human being should ever have to endure. And he did this each and every day with an amazing amount of love and grace. Felix represented what a true superhero is- his incredible kindness and spirit, his immense love of life-no matter what it may throw at you, and his amazing ability to live fully and presently in each moment. His life force, along with his identical twin brother Elliot and big sister Grace, inspired us all to get the very most out of every day that we are given.
Matt and I are running the Brighton Half Marathon to raise money for the amazing Neuroblastoma Alliance, a small charity that helps families struck by Neuroblastoma. A charity that really came to our rescue when Felix's cancer relapsed. Imagine being told your child has a disease which has no cure? As a parent, the desperation to find leading edge clinical trials or even hopeful leads becomes your sole focus. Neuroblastoma Alliance became our enabler, providing access to the leading edge care and options we needed for Felix. The charity funded Felix's antibody treatment in Germany and brought us to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia when he relapsed, a place full of hope and clinical trial options. The importance of leaving no stone unturned is immeasurable-even when things don't turn out as you had hoped and prayed.
We want to do everything we can to ensure that the other children battling this horrendous disease gets the access to treatment that they need and deserve. The Hope. Please help us raise money for them.
With deep thanks,
Colleen, Matt, Grace, Elliot .....and angel Felix forever XXXXX
