I am running this year's Great North Run for Myeloma UK, a charity whose work is really important to my family.
This year is going to be a particularly emotional one, the Great North Run is a family tradition that our Dad initially introduced to us and if not for myeloma, something I'm certain he'd still be doing with us now.
What is Myeloma?
Myeloma is a type of cancer that develops from cells in the bone marrow called plasma cells. At any one time there are around 17,500 people living with myeloma in the UK accounting for 15 per cent of blood cancers.
It is a relapsing-remitting cancer, that although is treatable is currently incurable.
Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. They are helping myeloma patients live longer and with a better quality of life.
How? By accelerating the discovery, development and access to new treatments, while helping patients and their families cope with everything a diagnosis of myeloma brings.
They receive no government funding and rely almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising activities.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
