Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am planning to raise money for Cancer Research by completing a 500+ mile cycle ride from 1st-13th June 2018, in memory of my father, Keith Goodswen, who died aged 63 following an 18-month battle against bladder cancer.

At present, my aim is to depart from King's Lynn in Norfolk on the 1st June, heading south to the Isle Of Wight and then back again, returning on the 13th June, the tenth anniversary of my father's death.

I am being accompanied on this little quest by my good friend Bob Flanagan, and our minimum target distance of 500 miles is likely to increase in the coming months, as I will be undertaking training over the next year, firstly in order to get in proper shape for the endeavour, but secondly to see how far I can potentially push myself come 1st June 2018. Dependant upon actual daily progress (and the finalised route/target distance), we might be stopping for a midway break (2 days max) on the Isle of Wight - a degree of recovery just might be necessary for the return leg, but a couple of laps of the Isle will also ensure we can at least meet our minimum 500-mile target!

As for the fundraising target, I have no specific figure in mind, but to keep it simple (and achievable) for now, £500 seems like a nice round number. But frankly, however much we end up raising will be fantastic, so whatever little you can stretch to would be gratefully received.

And for those of you interested beyond merely donating to the charity, I will be starting a blog to record not just my training progress, but the logistical details of planning out the journey, including route changes and any possible accommodation dramas (I'm considering campsite options, whereas I suspect Bob might be more in favour of B&Bs and the like, heheh! We'll see.)

Of course, I will be documenting the main event itself too, once we finally hit the road. I will most likely be reminiscing about my Dad along the way as well. The blog should be up and running in the next few days, and I will update this page with that particular link once it is ready. Again, thank you for reading this far, and many thanks for your support, both moral and donation-based! 😁 👍 Which brings me neatly to JustGiving's official sign-off:
