Clive's Mozart26

As a result of the current pandemic and lockdown, performers are amongst the hardest hit by consequent loss of earnings: their diaries are now quite simply empty and, for many, bank balances are heading the same way. As a conductor I have had the privilege and joy of working with thousands of musicians and I hugely admire their skills, dedication and professionalism.
On the day of the cancelled London Marathon (26 miles) I heard that many disappointed runners had found new ways to raise funds for their good cause making use of the number 26. This inspired me to create a project of my own: I decided to learn a major piano piece as my own personal marathon. So I chose:
Piano Concerto No.26 'Coronation' by Mozart
26 is the number of hours I have set myself
26 is the date in June when it will finish
When I conducted this same concerto in 1977, my friend of school and student days at the Royal Academy of Music, William Lee, was the solo pianist. A few years ago he died as a result of heart problems and diabetes: I still really miss his friendship, sense of humour and our music-making together. This is also for him.
