Story
Hi,
My name is Ian, and I aim to become the first person with cancer to climb Mount Everest, and raise £220,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. We've already raised an incredible £30,000 to support the climb , and every penny will now go towards reaching our £250k target!
In June 2015, I was diagnosed with cancer, and was given between 4 months and 2 years to live.
Against all odds, I beat it.
Sadly, it has come back, and I am now living with cancer and fighting it every day.
No one with cancer has ever reached the summit of Mount Everest before.
I'm determined to prove anything is possible, no matter what your situation. Starting in April 2017, I will attempt to become the first to achieve this feat.
I'm now trying to reach my target of £250,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. All the money you donate goes to Macmillan. If you are a UK Taxpayer you can claim Gift Aid on your donation.
Donating through Gift Aid means charities can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give. It won’t cost you any extra.
I also want to inspire anyone living with cancer to go and do that special thing they've always wanted to do. Of course, that thing might not be climbing a mountain. It could be finishing that book you've always said you would write, learning a new skill, or taking that dream trip.
I've always had a strong passion for adventure and discovering new challenges. My time in the military enabled me to seek new adventures around the globe; I've previously climbed in the Himalayas for 3 months, and I've walked across Iceland, solo and unsupported.
Climbing Mt Everest would be the pinnacle of my adventures, as it's been a dream since I was a child, and on my bucket list as an adult.
Of course, there are huge challenges to overcome, but now I have a chance to have a go at this once in a lifetime opportunity, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support along the way.
Thank you for your donations, and please tell your friends about my challenge.
Ian

Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan. Without people doing events, running marathons, climbing mountains, and donating in all the other ways that you can, Macmillan wouldn’t exist. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.
