Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! The next little bit again just let you know a bit more about why I am doing what I'm doing :-).
As probably all of you know, I have recently graduated in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. Whilst at University, God was developing a desire within in me to combine my engineering skills, mission overseas and my faith. In my second year I started searching for a way to do this and ‘stumbled’ across EMI (Engineering Ministries International). Spending six weeks in India with EWB (Engineering without Borders) confirmed my desire and God has opened a way for me to serve with EMI from January 2011 for 4 months (and hopefully a couple more months) in the head office in Colorado Springs. In India, I started to see how God can use engineering to make such a MASSIVE impact in so many lives especially for those with very little. I am VERY excited not just about the forth coming opportunity with EMI but the future which God seems to be paving out for me.
So what is EMI? Engineering Ministries International (EMI) is a
non-profit Christian development organisation made up of architects, engineers and design professionals who donate their skills to help children and families around the world step out of poverty and into a world of hope. Since 1982, EMI has completed over 800 projects in over 85 countries designing much needed facilities such as Hospitals, Orphanages, Water Supply systems, Churches and Schools. So what does a day at EMI look like for an intern? Well, every day starts with the entire office in prayer, then it is just a typical day in an engineering office. As an intern I will have a variety of tasks from AutoCAD drafting to writing reports and engineering design to helping others in the office. I will also be travelling with the engineers to a developing nation to conduct research for a project. I am excited about seeing how God is using Engineering to make a difference to people and very much looking forward to being part of the vision myself.
