Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A close friend of mine is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and has been told that she will lose her hair shortly. To support her, and all others in the same situation, I have decided to take the plunge and shave my head. I will also be donating my hair to The Little Princess Trust, an organisation who make wigs for children who have suffered hair loss through cancer and other illnesses.
I am doing this for Cancer Research, because I've been touched in many ways by lots of different cancers and have experienced both grief and joy as a result of this cruel disease.
I lost my best friend when we were both 22 as she lost her fight against cancer of the Adrenal Gland. Then, another very close friend had a double mastectomy at the age of 24 and she went on to have 2 beautiful girls and lives to tell the tale.
Both of my parents have had cancer on more than one occasion and the last time they were both ill, mom with breast cancer and dad with bowel cancer, they were in hospital in adjoining wards at the same time having their operations prior to starting chemotherapy. They both began their treatment on the same day and are both survivors! That was 10 years ago and I wanted to do this back then, however my mom asked me not to as I was expecting my 2nd child and I think she was worried how it would affect me emotionally with childbirth and the baby blues looming!
5 years ago I lost a close family member to breast cancer. She left her husband and 4 year old son and never got to see her son's first day at school.
Now, my best friend is fighting breast cancer and so I'd like to help raise money. I'm not up for running a marathon, so shaving my head and supporting Sharon whilst she is undergoing Chemo is something I can do.
My story isn't unusual and cancer has a way of touching most people's lives in different ways. My two young boys are being very brave in supporting me, and whilst I am nervous and feel that the situation is quite daunting, I just want to do what I can to help fund research to cure it one day.
