Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please help me meet my fundraising target before 5th September, which will be exactly 21 years since we lost Clare.
I have cycled the length of Route 66 (2278 miles) over the last year (22 July 2021 to the 21st July 2022) and finished my last ride cycling 70km (44 miles) from Clare's last home to her final resting place to celebrate and remember my friend who died from a brain tumour at the age of only 39 in 2001. Clare would have been 60 last year but still continues to inspire me and remind me to live life with a smile.
I chose this challenge as Clare was such an adventurer (her brother said to me at her funeral that Clare packed more into her 39 years than most people will do in two lifetimes) and I wanted to celebrate that adventurous spirit and think of her on each ride I do.
Clare was the one who inspired me to become a teacher, and I began my PGCE course 5 days after she died. As I now embark on the next chapter in my life, it seems fitting to remember the person who gave me the courage to change my direction 21 years ago.
Brain tumours still take far too many of our loved ones from us and are still one of the most under-funded areas of research. I hope that the money that you donate will help families in future to have hope that a brain tumour doesn't so often mean a death sentence.
Thank you for your support
