We are a sexual violence charity providing support to anyone who has experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. Our ethos is listening, believing and supporting. We relieve the distress of survivors through the provision of trauma-informed services and resources.

Story

Hello! I’m Claire and I’m running the Cardiff Half Marathon in March 2022 for SARSAS.

I don’t know what a “natural” runner is exactly, but I sure as hell am not one. I don't find it easy. My longest race was 10K in 2017 and I haven’t run consistently since then. I do other exercise so I'm not starting from zero fitness but it's going to be a challenge.

I started training in October 2021 after a long period of feeling Not Very Good. Imagine running from Bristol to Bath on the cycle path. That’s about the half marathon distance. I think I can just about squeak it but it will be tough!

I am doing the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sun 27 March. I was originally booked for the Weston Half (same day!) but they start packing down the course after a ridiculously short period of time and lolllll I am not the fastest runner out there so off to Wales we go.

It’s probably the worst time of year to train for a half with all the cold weather but what are you gonna do…

I am running for SARSAS who do amazing work for people who have experienced rape or any other sexual abuse or assault, and their friends and family.

Please donate if you can, any contribution at all is super appreciated and will keep me going when I’m trying to swallow fistfulls of jelly babies on mile 10.

THANK YOU! xxx

More about SARSAS:

Nothing can erase sexual violence, whenever it happened. But, finding support can make all the difference in learning how to process and heal the symptoms and consequences, prevent future assaults and empower women to reclaim their lives with honesty, dignity and integrity. SARSAS exists to Listen, Believe and Support. We provide confidential services: helpline, live chat, email support, counselling, group work and art therapy. Sadly, we have a waiting list. All donations will help to reduce the time women have to wait for support.
