Story
We both thought that this year we'd do something different and pretty challenging.. We both like a little run as much as the next person, but probably only about 5k.. so signing up for the Hackney Half Marathon in May is something we're definitely going to have to train and push ourselves for!
While doing this we also get to raise awareness for Antony Nolan, an amazing charity that doesn't get the press coverage and awareness it deserves. I think it's safe to say we wouldn't even be considering doing this if it wasn't for our good friend Alice, who recently fell ill with a rare blood disorder, and the only cure is a stem cell transplant. These are relatively new but are really important as they have the ability to cure people with blood cancers all over the world. Antony Nolan encourages everyone to sign up to their donor register, and if you're a match for someone waiting for a transplant you can donate your stem cells, not through bone marrow like everyone thinks but through your bloodstream in a totally painless procedure- just like giving blood! To donate it'll only take one day of your life but has the potential to create hundreds of days for someone waiting for a match... Unfortunately nothing in life is free, it costs Antony Nolan £100 to put one person on the register, so although it's incredibly worthwhile to sign up to the register (you can do so by going on their page www.antonynolan.org) raising money to help fund it is just as important!
All the sweat and jelly legs we've got to come in the next six months will be for nothing if we can't raise money while doing it.. We're not asking you to run it with us (although you're more than welcome to!) just to sponsor us instead.. A couple of clicks even for a couple of pounds would be amazing and a huge step in the right direction! This is definitely one of the biggest challenges both of us have ever undertaken but your sponsor money can help someone with blood cancer get through their biggest challenges too. A huge, huge thank you in advance from both of us :)
