Story
I am running the Great North Run to help fund research into finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), and to help towards the future care of a little boy who suffers from the condition.
DMD is a rare genetic muscle wasting condition which affecting around 2,500 people in the UK. DMD prevents the body producing a protein called dystrophin which is needed for muscle function and repair. Quality of life is reduced as the condition takes hold, mobility becomes impaired to the point that all muscles eventually stop working and they will become confined to a wheelchair, they will need assistance with breathing and unfortunately their life will end prematurely usually from cardiac arrest.
This condition has affected a family close to my heart. My friends son Theo was diagnosed with the condition over 3 years ago, since being diagnosed the family have had to try and come to terms with this devastating news, they remain positive and believe a cure will be found . Theo is a typical little boy who deserves a chance of a long and fulfilling life which is why I have chosen to support research with a fundraising target of £350.
I hope you can support me to support this great cause.
Thank you
