Story
Last year I did the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride (60 Miles). It was enormous fun (even though the weather wasn't great) and I was so proud of myself once I had finished it.
This year I wanted to challenge myself further and decided I wanted to ride Coast to Coast. I will be Riding from Filey (Yorkshire) to Fleetwood and then back to the Cenotaph in Astley Park, Chorley (169 Miles in total). I will be completing this over 2 days, 3rd & 4th September 2011.
Training is going well and I am really excited about doing the ride. I have set myself a goal of £1500 and would really like to achieve this. Please help me to reach my goal by showing your generosity and donating. No amount is too small everything will be greatly appreciated therefore please pass this link to your family and friends.
The Royal British Legion (RBL) are celebrating their 90th year this year. They help Service people, past and present including their families, but unfortunately the RBL does not get as much publicity as some other charities. It is a charity which I really believe in and admire all the work they do. I think they really deserve all the support that they can get and I really want to help in bringing them to other peoples attention.
What the RBL do: The RBL is a UK charity that has been helping Service people past and present for 90 years, and although their needs have changed over that time the need for their work is as vital as ever. The Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and over 380,000 members continue to ensure that this voice does not go unheard. They are committed to the welfare, interests and memory of the Service family - those who we feel have made a unique commitment to their country and deserve to be rewarded for that with long term care. They are probably best-known for their role as the nation's custodian of Remembrance and for the Poppy Appeal, our annual fundraising campaign. But the Legion is not just about poppies in November, but caring for people all year round.
Some of the things your money will help towards:
£20 would contribute towards an emergency grant to provide essentials like food, fuel, clothing or bedding to an ex-Service person struggling to survive.
£30 could help towards providing skilled advice and an hour's representative for a person at a Disability Allowance or War/Disablement Pension tribunal.
£50 could pay for sports training equipment to prepare and train seriously injured ex-Service men and women.
£60 could pay for specialist physiotherapy to strengthen an injured ex-Service man or woman.
£80 will help us to kit out a Reminiscence Room in the new Dementia Unit at Galanos House. This is where each resident's life history can be enhanced instead of forgotten.
£100 could help to cover the running costs to ensure the aftercare of our wounded is of the highest possible standard.
£250 could buy an emergency lifeline alarm for an elderly person.
£800 could provide a severely disabled person and their carer with a much needed welfare break.
I will be collecting the money off my sponsorship forms once I have completed the ride, the raised offline is what people have written down on my sponsorship form so far. These amounts do not include my collection boxes.
I will add photos shortly and keep you updated on how my training is going.
