Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Three months ago our mum was having a whale of a time scuba-diving & quad biking with her friend in Egypt.
Six weeks ago she started to feel unwell and visited her doctor. Within one week she was too poorly to stay at home and ended up being admitted to QA Hospital, Portsmouth.
Two weeks later she was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer that had invaded her liver, lungs & ovaries & was advised that it was inoperable & untreatable.
Receiving news of a life-shortening illness is a life-changing moment and mum wanted to escape the hospital which was a very noisy & public place for her & us to try to come to terms with her diagnosis.
Luckily the Palliative Care Consultant wrote a very convincing referral letter which enabled her to be transferred to the Rowans Hospice within a week.
So here we are now - mum has her own room with views out to the garden and the local wildlife. There are no constantly beeping machines & if mum needs support she gets it immediately, not once handover has finished. We can visit whatever time, day or night & even stay overnight if we want to. All the staff are incredibly supportive to both mum & us.
Incredibly they provide this service free of charge, but each year it costs more than £5 million to keep the Hospice running.
Thank you for reading our story.
....there is no obligation to support us in our fundraising efforts but at least consider donating something to your own local hospice as it's only when your world is turned upside-down that you truly appreciate how amazing places like this are.
