Story
Hey Everyone,
I am taking part in the Belfast City Marathon on the 2nd of May 2011, hopefully I'll make it through. I'd like to raise money for The Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children, you may have seen the ad on T.V. and it gets me every time (If you haven't seen it, then watch the video I posted). I know there are so many deserving charities and it is hard to support them all and I know times are tough at the minute but every little bit helps and your support would be very much appreciated. I chose this charity as I had asked a lady who visits the Pharmacy which charity she would like me to support as her little boy had recently been diagnosed with Leukemia, I thought it would be a nice way to get more involved in the community.
Training is going well so far and I have made it up to 20 miles, which I completed on the 27th March running from Newry to Portadown along the canal bank, which was actually rather enjoyable. I will be completing this again this weekend on the 10th April and have scheduled a final 20mile run for the 17th April, but this time it will be among the hilly and rugged terrain of Glengesh and beyond, as I'm worried that the canal bank is a bit too flat and easy. Then there'll be two weeks of stepping down the training and if i'm honest I am looking forward to those weeks! The training does get a little boring and tough after a while but on the plus side I get to eat lots of Snickers, jelly babies and wine gums, have to keep energy levels up somehow:O)
I completed the Belfast Marathon in 2008 but had never run before and just decided I needed a challenge, it took me 5hrs and 50mins which I was proud of at the time but I'd really like to beat that, although compared to this time, I hardly trained at all for the last one, apart from using my trusty treadmill, which I hate the sight of now as I'd much rather be on the roads with the wind in my hair, and so people can see how fit I am, more like how sweaty and red faced I am :O)
I'll keep you posted on how i'm getting on but it would be great if you could give a little and show your support:O)
