Story
welcome folks!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
over the past 4 years of my now "normal" life, not only have I witnessed cancer first hand in my own family it seems every friend i speak to has also been affected by this vile disease in one way or another.
Last year, while watching my mother bravely battle breast cancer, the bremer family were watching their brave little girl battle Neuroblastoma.
She sadly lost this battle on 05/07/2013 at the age of 2 years and 2 days old.
So my running shoes go on for the first time in memory of Lizzi B...
Lizzy had an incredibly rare strain of a very rare and aggressive childhood cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma in January. This affects around 25% of the 60 children a year who get this disease. She was, staggeringly, 1 of only 15 children in the UK being treated at this level. Sadly, current treatments can be ineffective if a child's tumours have an amplification of the MYC-N gene. This is what caused Lizzy's cancer to take over her body and run out of control.
At the moment there are many efforts being made in clinical studies to find treatments to control this gene, none yet successful.
Funds are desperately needed to progress research to the point where other little angels, like lizzy, don't have to suffer and die at the hands of what is otherwise a rampant disease.
Not to seem like im weighing up which cancer is more tragic than an other... but for all these beautiful children that have been stripped of a chance at life, i feel this is a cancer that should be put to the top of the list for being stamped out!!!!!
So dig deep people not only for this wonderful charity, but for the thought of me stamping around hastings....
in the words of my husband 'you run funny'...........
